By 19 January 2009, one day after a tentative ceasefire began, 410 children have been killed and 1,855 injured following the 27 December 2008 Israeli military incursion into the Gaza Strip in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. More than half of Gaza's population are children, and children are 32 per cent of this war's casualties. A girl views the destruction outside her window.

-A total of 1,300 Gazans and 13 Israeli civilians have died since the incursion began. Smoke and fire rises over the southern city of Rafah during the 12 January bombardment.
-The compound includes a main warehouse holding food, fuel and other aid supplies, offices and a school that was sheltering 700 people who had fled their homes. Salvaged aid supplies stand outside the warehouse.
-The latest full-scale war follows an 18-month blockade of the Gaza Strip that had already severely damaged infrastructure, verging on economic collapse. A boy surveys bomb damage in a Rafah refugee camp.-On 14 January, a Gazan girl mourns the death of family members.
-On 15 January, the main compound of UNRWA - the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, the lead humanitarian organization in OPT - was hit in Gaza City, wounding three. Fire fighters work to control the flames.
-The compound includes a main warehouse holding food, fuel and other aid supplies, offices and a school that was sheltering 700 people who had fled their homes. Salvaged aid supplies stand outside the warehouse.
-A child stands inside an UNRWA school in Rafah - one of some 50,000 people who sought shelter in UNRWA facilities. But 46 Gazans have died during attacks on UNRWA schools.
-Eighty per cent of Gazans are also dependent on food assistance, all but three health clinics are closed and hospitals are overwhelmed. Children queue for a food distribution on 15 January.
-And 75 per cent of residents have no access to electricity, the result of a fuel blockade that has been intermittently in force for more than a year. Children study by candlelight in Beit Hanoun.
-Boys fetch water supplies near Khan Younis. A daily three-hour ceasefire was finally instituted on 7 January, permitting residents to leave their shelters in search of basic necessities.
-One-third of the population has no running water in their homes, and sanitation services are collapsing. Families collect water at a public tap in Rafah during the 14 January ceasefire.
-But the psychological impact on children surrounded by death, injury and deprivation is potentially the most enduring effect of this more than 50-year-old conflict. Siblings cry in the Rafah refugee camp.
-Boys help salvage items from a damaged commercial building in the Rafah refugee camp. The destruction of children's world is a clear violation of their right to protection, health and security
-Three days after the latest heightened conflict began, a boy mourned the death of friends in Gaza City. Since then, hundreds more children have died, thousands more are injured - and the crisis continues.
-...and a family in Rafah flees their home. But unable to escape from the besieged and blockaded Gaza Strip, it is uncertain they will find a safe shelt
-And the sufferings of children's loved ones add to their distress. A woman cries as she carries a few rescued belongings through a Rafah street destroyed by bombing.
-Children stand amidst the rubble of their neighbourhood mosque
