Palestina. Kelab Putera 1Malaysia Team Reach Gaza Border

RAFAH, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- The Kelab Putera 1Malaysia humanitarian mission has reached this town bordering the Gaza strip and is scheduled cross into the Palestinian territory later this evening (Egyptian time).
A total of 67 volunteers led by the club's president Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim left Cairo at 8am (Egyptian time) and arrived here seven hours later in an overland journey.
The convoy of two buses, three cars and a lorry laden with medicine, clothes and food weighing a total of 11 tonnes, did not have any problems clearing 18 checkpoints along the way as it was accompanied by Egyptian police outriders.
An official from the Malaysian embassy in Cairo is also accompanying the mission.
The mission, which has the full support of the Red Crescent societies of Malaysia, Egypt and Palestine, also has 35 doctors from the various races in Malaysia in it.
The 13-day mission, which began on Aug 8, aims to provide help to 2,000 families in five villages in the conflict zone in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan.
