OCCUPIED JERUSALEM -- Palestinian sources in occupied Jerusalem reported that the Israeli municipal council in the holy city issued demolition orders against eight Palestinian homes in the neighborhoods of Ras Shehadeh and Issawiya as a prelude to initiating the project of Shaare Hamizrah settlement.
The sources added that this settlement project includes the building of 2,000 housing units, a sport center, hotels and tourist facilities and will be linked to settlements I1 and Maale Adumim, the thing which will make Jerusalem completely encircled by settlements in its eastern part.
This new settlement project threatens dozens of Palestinian families with displacement and eviction from their native areas.
In another context, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Ahmed Al-Tayeb expressed his rejection of visiting Jerusalem while it is under occupation and called on Muslims not to visit it so as to prevent Israel from using such visits to achieve political gains.
Tayeb said in a televised interview that he refuses to meet with any Israeli official inside or outside Egypt, but he stressed the need to differentiate between moderate Jewish figures in Europe and America, who reject Israel’s aggressive policy, and the officials.
