RAMALLAH -- The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) has ordered the confiscation of 49 dunums of Palestinian land in Beitonia village, Ramallah district, in order to construct a new bypass road linking Jerusalem to Modi'in settlement.
The IOA claims that the confiscation of those lands would facilitate new security measures along road 443 linking between Jerusalem and Modi'in in preparation for opening it before Palestinian vehicles within one month and a half following a verdict by the Israeli high court in this regard.
Hebrew daily Ha'aretz said on Sunday that the commander of the Israeli army's central region signed an order for the confiscation of 15 dunums to be added to 34 dunums that were confiscated earlier for the same purpose.
The construction of hundreds of bypass roads in the West Bank to facilitate movement of Jewish settlers had led to the confiscation of tens of thousands of Palestinian dunums.
