GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli authorities will temporarily open one crossing into the Gaza Strip on Sunday for the limited delivery of goods and fuel, a crossings official said.
Palestinian goods delivery coordinator Raed Fattouh said between 210 and 220 truckloads of humanitarian aid and commercial merchandise was scheduled to enter Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing in the south of the Strip.
Limited quantities of domestic-use gas and industrial diesel, needed to fuel Gaza's sole power station which was forced to shut down Saturday, will also enter through the southern terminal with Israel, he said.
The Karni crossing in northern Gaza will remain closed, Fattouh added.
On Saturday, Gaza's sole power plant ceased generating electricity after officials warned of the site's imminent shut down. Plant officials said a fuel shortage caused the shutdown and blamed the PA's refusal to ship sufficient fuel into the coastal enclave for the latest crisis.
The third time since January that the plant has been forced to close due to fuel shortage, earlier blackouts were blamed on a rocky transfer of responsibility for fuel supply to Gaza from the EU to the PA.
The PA Ministry of Finance will deduct 25 percent from the salaries of all employed Gaza residents from September to cover the Strip's electricity bill, an Electricity Company spokesman said Saturday.
