Palestinians In Europe To Partake in Gaza Freedom March

9-12-2009
The conference of Palestinians in Europe said it will actively participate in the massive Gaza freedom march which will set off from Egypt towards the besieged Gaza Strip in a peaceful attempt to break the Israeli blockade.

Hundreds of multinational participants will take part in this rally and gather in Cairo on December 27, the day which marks the first anniversary of Israel’s brutal war on Gaza. The participants intend to stay there until the second of January to attend several events.

I will personally be partaking in the Gaza Freedom March wherein I plan on updating the site as frequently as time and electricity permits. There is less than a month until the march and only a few weeks before many of us leave our nations of origins in order to join the march.

Stay tuned for more information and updates.

Secretary-general of the conference Adel Abdullah said that its delegation is composed of international figures from Britain, Austria, Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Ireland.

Abdullah stated that the participation of Palestinians in Europe delegation in this march is aimed to deliver several important messages to several parties including Israel that the free world will not remain silent towards its crimes against humanity.

He added that the conference is seeking to draw the world’s attention to the inhuman and immoral nature of the Israeli siege on Gaza, which violates the provisions of international humanitarian law and human rights charters.

For his part, head of Palestinians in Europe delegation Amin Abu Rashid said that the silence of signatories to international humanitarian treaties and conventions on the Israeli blockade and the genocide committed against the Palestinian people in Gaza encourages Israel to escalate its violations.

Abu Rashid pointed out that the statute of the international criminal court defines “genocide” as every act that would impose living conditions on a group of people leading to the destruction of their lives in whole or in part, and describes the intentional starvation of civilians by depriving them of objects indispensable to their survival as well as the willful impeding of relief supplies as “war crimes”.
