Turkish flags sell well in Gaza

GAZA-- Tarik Abu Dayya, a 30-year-old Palestinian, was very content after Turkish flags and pictures of Turkish prime minister were sold out in his souvenir shop, while still feel sorry that pictures of pro-Palestinian activists were not allowed to sell after Israel attacked a Gaza-bound flotilla and killed at least nine last week.
"Hundreds of people bought Turkey's flags and images of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan," said Abu Dayya, who has been in this business for years. "It's good, and I feel sad for those killed by the Israelis while trying to break the blockade on Gaza. "
Turkey's national flags and banners applauding its leaders were seen everywhere on Gaza streets. During Friday's prayer, Ismail Haneya, prime minister of Islamic Hamas movement, stood between Palestinian and Turkish flags as he delivered sermon at a Gaza mosque.
Last week's Israeli attack against the Gaza-bound flotilla, which was carrying aid and construction materials, pushed hundreds of thousands of Gazans to take to the streets to support Turkey and its prime minister, who defied the Israeli blockade by sending the aid ships.
"People come to my shop to buy Turkish flags," said Abu Dayya, adding "I have photocopied hundreds of images of the Turkish leader Erdogan too."
