Demonstration at the Ministry of Defense in Tel-Aviv this evening at 19:00
The Netanyahu-Barak-Lieberman Government is dragging the entire region into an inferno. The violent overtaking of the flotilla shows that the government has lost its way, pushing it to acts of insanity, killing and political suicide.
Uri Avnery, leader of Gush Shalom: "The State of Israel committed in the Oslo Agreements 17 years ago, to enable and encourage the establishment of a deep sea port in Gaza, through which the Palestinians would be able to freely import and export and develop their economy. The time has come to implement that commitment and to open wide the Gaza Port. Only when the Gaza Port is opened to free and uninterrupted movement, exactly like the ports in Ashdod and Haifa, will Israel's disengagement from Gaza truly be completed. Until then, the world will – rightly - consider the Gaza Strip to be under Israeli occupation and the State of Israel to be responsible for the fate of its citizens."
This evening at 19:00 we will stand together, Jews and Arabs, opposite the Defense Ministry in Tel-Aviv, to call for ending the insanity of war and the peace rejectionism of Barak, Netanyahu and Lieberman.
Hundreds of activists from Gush Shalom, the Women's Coalition for Peace, the Coalition Against the Blockade and other organizations are demonstrating now opposite the Ashdod Port, awaiting the arrival of the boats that are being towed to the port. They are carrying signs reading: "Prosecute War Criminals," "Pirates Commit Massacre at High Seas," "Lift the Siege on Gaza," "Stop the Army – Not the Boats," "No to Piracy – Yes to Peace," and "End the Siege."
